April 2026 – Greetings from the Chair

Dear CADS,

This is my first official newsletter to you as Chair. I’m just as intrigued as you might be as to what my imprint will be on CADS but one thing is for sure: you get out of CADS what you decide to put into it! It is the members who define who we are… so I thought I’d use this ‘change of guard’ as an opportunity to ascertain what you would like CADS to be. Based on your feedback we’ll do our best to plan new events accordingly. So please fill in the survey – it’s only a couple of questions so it won’t take more than a moment!

The presentation by Linda Seewald on the ‘’Modern Clown – a master of poetry, absurdity, and a reflection of our society’’ unfortunately had to be cancelled as Linda was ill. We wish her a speedy recovery and I’m sure we’ll be able to hear her insights during one of our future events…Nethertheless we had an enjoyable lunch!

Battle field trip – Operations Market Garden, Veritable, Grenade and Plunder

CADS member John Cameron-Webb’s battlefield tour saw a group of 22 people driving in convoy and reliving the historic details of various notable World War II events. On Saturday Glenn Schoen of the Arnhem Fellowship started off by showing us the drop zone that marked the arrival of about 35,000 paratroopers and combat support staff by air on the fields around Arnhem. There was nothing that Glenn didn’t know about the 100,000 allied troops who synchronised (or didn’t?!) their actions. Tony Sheldon, who has spoken to CADS in the past, gave insightful first hand narratives of the local population (which you can also read about in his book) and on Sunday John took us on to the sites of the subsequent battles (Veritable, Grenade and Plunder). He zoomed in on the lives of some of the individual soldiers and conditions under which they operated. Watch us laying a wreath at one of the cemeteries we visited.

I’ve now been on tours with John to Arnhem, Ypres and the Somme and can’t wait for his next one!

Upcoming – May, 22nd

Join us for an engaging lunch with Chris Rampling, His Majesty’s Ambassador to The Netherlands. This talk promises a uniquely informed perspective, shaped by Chris Rampling’s senior roles in UK national security and defence as well as his diplomatic postings across the Middle East and Europe. With direct experience at the intersection of politics, security and international trade, he will offer us valuable insight into how global developments are influencing UK–Netherlands business relations today.

Please note that the deadline to register for this event is May 15th, noon! After this the KIGC won’t accept changes in their lunch planning.

In June we’ll have our AGM and for August we’re planning our traditional cruise along the canals of Amsterdam. Please do double check the site for exact dates, locations and timings as we’d like to try an occasional variation to see whether this appeals to existing and new members.
