December 2025 – Greetings from the Chair

My dear CADS,

I hope you are surviving this festive season and unlike me, are managing to avoid all the ‘lurgy’.

CADS held its annual Jokathon on Friday 19th at the K.I.G.C.. We really did have an amazing time. The event was dedicated to our dear friend Mark Cunnningham. The joke telling was magnificent particularly because we re-told many of Mark’s favourites, and almost every person was moved to tell a joke, even our guests.
René Weijerman was unfortnately absent but we made sure we toasted his ‘parrot’ joke; Nick Bowers was awarded an Honourable Mention for a cracking ‘spoonerism’ yarn; and John Cameron Webb had the most amazing repertoire of silliness, effortlessly told!

But it was Judith Hope, (who came a worthy second last year), who was awarded the Mike Hayes ‘wedgie’ trophy. Judith really is a fabulous raconteur!

Our January meeting will be on Friday January 16th 2026, at the KIGC from 12 noon. The speaker will be Yvo de Boer on the topic of ‘Climate Action – Hoax, Threat or Business Opportunity’ – this looks to be an interesting and super relevant topic despite the protestations of Trump!

I hope that you are all able to enjoy the holiday celebrations in the way that you want, with the people you want to be with! Wishing you all a very merry relaxing time, and all the best for a healthy and happy 2026!
