Dear CADS,
As we reach the end of June, I’m sweltering in the tropical heat that has engulfed much of Europe these days. A good opportunity to consider on the activities of the last month and look forward to what still lies ahead of us later this Summer.
Our June event was the CADS Annual General Meeting, an important moment to take stock of 2025 and look forward. We reflected on a year in which CADS once again showed its strength: well-attended lunches, thoughtful speakers, new members, charitable engagement, and the warmth and goodwill that make our Society special. We used the opporunity to discuss how CADS can remain active, welcoming and relevant in the years ahead. You can read a fuller version of the Chair’s report on the CADS website.
| A small number of CADS members also had the pleasure of attending Dorette’s garden party, held as part of the annual Open Grachten Tuinen initiative. It was a lovely opportunity to step away from the bustle of the city and experience a quiet pocket of nature in the heart of Amsterdam. Surrounded by greenery, conversation and good company, it was a charming reminder of the hidden beauty behind the city’s canal houses. On Friday 21 August, our annual boat party will take place on the canals of Amsterdam. The boat trip will run from 15:00 to 17:00 and will include drinks, nibbles and, of course, good company. Please note that there will be no lunch or dinner this time: just a relaxed afternoon on the water with fellow CADS members.If you already know you are coming, please sign up now so that we can make the necessary arrangements. It promises to be one of the highlights of the CADS Summer calendar. In Septemberwe look forward to Linda Seewald’s talk on The Modern Clown – A Master of Poetry, Absurdity, and a Reflection of Our Society. Members are also advised to keep their golfing spirits — and perhaps their clubs — at the ready. We are considering an impromptu CADS golf event, where participants will have the opportunity to compete for the much-acclaimed CADS Golf Trophy. More details will follow if and when the stars, diaries and weather conditions align. There will be no CADS event and no newsletter in July. We hope everyone enjoys a well-earned Summer break, whether that means travelling, staying closer to home, or simply taking a little time to recharge.
