My dear CADS,

How are you all? Enjoying the occasional signs of Spring? This really has been a long damp winter, and I cannot wait for warmer days – it is nearly April after all! We had a super CADS dinner this month at the IGC. David True, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the UK Delegation to the OPCW gave us a very interesting presentation on the origins and current operations of the OPCW. It was a tough topic to hear while enjoying nice wine in the splendour of the IGC, but essential listening all the same. As is the intention behind holding a dinner rather than a lunch, some members who work full-time, were able to come along, and there was also an IGC Club dinner taking place on the same evening that other CADS members were attending, so the bar before and afterwards was teeming with CADS till ‘chucking out’ time – all in all, a very enjoyable
evening!

Member News

We have 2 new members this month – Koos Hugen and Ian Saggers. Some of you may remember Koos Hugen as he used to be a member a while ago, and after attending the Jokathon with John Milhado this December, he enjoyed himself so much he signed up straight away. Ian Saggers has been nominated by Marc van Eck after also thoroughly enjoying this year’s Jokathon. Proper introductions of these two new members will follow shortly, but in the meantime, a warm CADS welcome to Koos and Ian!

With Dee stepping down as Secretary and Peter Valentine wanting to step down as Treasurer, along with Pete Molloy’s resignation, we are therefore left with several opportunities on the CADS Board. At the end of the day, this is a social business networking club, so none of the roles are particularly onerous but it would be very helpful if some of you could please come forward, to assist in the running of our lovely club!

Please remember Jenny Zonneveld’s sculpting exhibition (featured in last month’s newsletter). Jenny will be exhibiting her work in April and invites you to visit. The exhibition is in the popup gallery in Mijdrecht, Lindeboom 3. Open from 12:00 to 16:00 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays* in April. * Except 27 April as that is Kings Day! Please contact Jenny (translatext@gmail.com) if you wish to visit outside these opening times. For a preview, see https://www.translatext.nl/beelden/

Annual CADS agenda

Last month I asked for ideas for events that we could organise outside of the monthly lunches. Several of you came back favourably for wine tasting, garden visits and a Golden Jubilee celebration dinner. My current thinking is that the July lunch could include a wine tasting, so if any of you are in that industry or have connections please come back to me to help organise such an event. I would also like to hold the CADS Golden Jubilee event in November so would welcome any assistance in designing and organising the festivities.
Dorette Ouwehand Schilte, one of our newer members, has extended an invitation to all CADS members to her place in Amsterdam, on Friday June 14th from 5 to 8 pm. Dorette is taking part in the Open Garden Days along the Amsterdam Canals when visitors can purchase a pass to view around 23 gardens (including Dorette’s, on June 14,15, and 16. https://www.opentuinendagen.nl/ CADS members could buy a pass to visit all the gardens and then come along to Dorette’s garden, or simply come straight to Dorette’s place where she will welcome you to join her neighbours and other guests for drinks and nibbles. It sounds like a lovely evening, so please put this date in your agenda. Thank you Dorette, for the kind invitation.

See our events page for the latest schedule of events for your agendas. Many of you are super busy so please put ALL these dates in your diary NOW!

Our guest speakers in April will be Fonger Ypma and Tom Meijeraan of an organization called Arctic Reflections. https://arcticreflections.earth/ This organization is on a mission to restore Arctic Sea ice to counter global warming. They aim to restore the arctic ice by thickening the ice in winter by pumping sea water on top of it, which will then freeze quickly and produce thicker ice sheets. Fonger and Tom will explain all about their mission, the operations and the funding for their organisation which has recently featured in the Guardian and on the BBC. I am very excited that we have obtained their services!!
