Chairman’s Corner August 2015

Hailing fellow CADS wherever you are!

If you are reading this on holiday, I wish you a relaxing and refreshing break, and safe travels home. If you are not, I hope to see you soon J

This month is the CADS annual cricket lunch at the VRA. Where will we dine in sunny splendour at The Netherlands national cricket ground whilst watching the Dutch take on an English touring side.

This is the last of the CADS summer lunches before returning to the Apollo Hotel for the autumn term in September. Dress code is informal, and if you wear cricket whites you may be dragooned into the national side for the day!

There are a few upcoming events as follows:

  • SAIL AMSTERDAM is on again, from 19th – 23rd The SS ELFIN is still seeking sponsors for the intocht cruise on the 19th. If you can help, please email Frank Boom at f.boom@chello.nl.
  • The CADS GOLF TROPHY will be played for at the Haarlemmermeersche Golf Club on Friday 11th Registration opens at 1230. Please reserve your places by emailing me. Willem, Edward, Peter, John M, John D and John R have already registered, so if you want to join us and have an NGF card, you are most welcome. If you are a non-player, do come along and join us for the dinner, from 1800 onwards.
  • The BRITSOC CHRISTMAS BALL is the most glamorous and glittering event of The Netherlands Christmas social calendar. The venue is once again the Olaf Chapel in The Barbizon Hotel opposite Centraal station. There is a champagne reception, a fabulous meal with wine prepared by Chris Naylor, the Barbizon’s Michelin* chef, an evening (and early morning!) of dancing, and a late night breakfast for those still going strong after midnight. The cost is normally 120 Euros per head, but if you book now, CADS can arrange a 25% discount! 16 CADS members have already signed up. Send me an email asap if you want to take advantage.

The summer silly season is well underway with the British chancellor selling off RBS to his City pals at discounted bargain basement prices whilst most people are away on holiday, otherwise not much to report on the Anglo-Dutch commercial front this month J
