On Sunday 10th November, CADS committee member Craig Welsh will be taking part in an exciting charity event. His company, The Spectrum IFA Group, is entering two teams in the French Riviera Relay Marathon. Craig will be running the longest 10.8km stretch from Antibes to Vallauris, to raise funds and awareness for GiveWatts.
The CADS Committee has made a contribution. Please consider adding your personal or company donation to this worthwhile cause. Your support to Craig will be very much appreciated! Donations can be made here. Just click on the Donate link next to Craig’s picture.
What Does GiveWatts Do?
Give Watts donates solar lamps to schools and villages in Kenya with no mains supply. It supports micro-financing, for instalments of the equivalent of what people already pay for kerosene (around 40% of their income). There is no added cost, the benefit is immediate, and the lamp is paid off in a few weeks so the savings thereon are large. This is much better than giving lamps away because it avoids dependency and the repayment means that the donated money is recycled again to provide more lamps. The charity has been set up and is run by volunteers who studied at IMD Lausanne over recent years and who want to help give something back to society. All the funds go directly to the work, less a 5% admin charge used to cover regulatory costs.
Kerosene lamps are dangerous, smelly, have high CO2 output and give terrible light. Solar Lamps’ Impact:
– Low CO2
– Safe
– Better quality light for studying
Installations are with the cooperation of the local school’s Parent Teacher Association, and GIVEWATTS monitors progress for two years after starting to work with a school, monitoring the improvement in grades that occurs after solar lamp installation in the school and in local homes.
