Dear fellow CADS

sep1This month is news-packed! We had the CADS golf day (report elsewhere in this issue by Antonio), and arranged an outing for November 15th at the Peace Palace iincluding a tour of the Palace and the ICJ, and lunch in their Refectory. It starts at 1100 outside the Palace, and finishes at 1400. Reservation by email to me, please.

sep3At our lunch this month we have TWO speakers. Tim Cooke has come from England to tell us how his Escape Poverty micro-finance work in Africa is progressing, and how the money we have invested is being used. And Frederike Brockhoven, winner of the 2013 BBC ESU English Speaking Award (now the GNE Awards), will speak to us on a subject of her own choice. Do come along and enjoy what will be a cracking piece of entertainment and an excellent lunch.

We are currently asking for members’ views on when, where and how we meet each month. You should have received a questionnaire last month. Do please fill it in and return it. We will base our decisions on those that are returned, so do let us have your view. If you need it resending, let me know and I’ll send it to you.

And for the second time in two months we are celebrating the arrival of a member’s baby! Steve and Nicole Forde are the proud parents of Alyshia – their third daughter!  Mother and baby are doing fine, and Steve is expected to recover in about 18 years… 🙂

Finally, two dates for your diary. On Saturday November 9th, CADS will lay a wreath at the Remembrance Service in the Nieuwe Oosterbegraafplaats. Do come along for the ceremony at 1030hrs. And on December 7th, CADS will join BritSoc in hosting the Xmas Ball at the Olof Chapel in the Barbizon Palace. Tickets are 105 Euros per head including dinner, drinks, and dancing until 1am. Extraordinary value for a meal prepared by a Michelin-starred chef in a 5* hotel, and a great way to prepare for the Jokathon the following Friday!
