VRA Cricket Club, Friday 26 July 2013.
The Annual CADS Cricket Lunch was held at the VRA cricket club pavilion here in Amstelveen on a sweltering last Friday of the month.
Playing on the main ground was a touring team from Australia, who started play an hour earlier at 12 noon to avoid any delay due to the lightning storm that threatened to hit the ground around 2pm. As it turned out it was only light rain, which did nothing to dampen an otherwise perfect day for cricket.
We had twenty CADS members and guests for lunch and they were treated to a marvellous welcome speech by CADS chairman Mike Waters, a sumptuous three-course lunch that included fish and chips and an extremely amusing speech from our guest speaker and VRA groundsman Paul Polak— who we presented with three of his favourite Cuban cigars, which he later smoked as he drove his tractor while preparing the main ground for the evening 20-twenty cricket match.
